Carylynn Kemp Larson, PhD

Board President & Founder

 Carylynn Kemp Larson founded Rock Recovery back in 2008. After graduating from Centre College (Danville, KY), Cary earned a Doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychologist from George Mason University. She has an extensive background in designing and implementing individual and organizational development programs. As she volunteers her time with Rock Recovery, she works as an internal consultant for the National Science Foundation and serves as adjunct faculty at George Washington University. Cary is an active member of the International Leadership Association, the Society for Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Association. Cary and her husband Ben live in Arlington, VA, where they are active members of Grace Community Church. Cary and Ben love exploring DC with their son Charlie.

Brendan Sorem

Treasurer

 Brendan Sorem currently works in commercial real estate investment and development for Redbrick LMD, a private real estate firm based in Washington, DC. Prior to joining Redbrick, Brendan worked in New York City for the CFO of The Blackstone Group and in real estate investment banking for Barclays Capital. His primary area of expertise is in financial analysis/management, capital raising and small business growth. He is a graduate of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

Brendan is passionate about Rock Recovery’s mission and looks forward to increasing Rock’s capacity to serve exponentially more clients over the coming years.  As a native Washingtonian, Brendan lives and dies (but mostly dies) for all things DC sports. In his free time he enjoys boating, golfing and any other excuse to be outside with a cold beverage.

Barry McNinch

Board Member

Barry joined the Rock Recovery board in October 2022, and has been a dedicated Rock Recovery supporter and volunteer for years. As a Licensed Resident in Counseling, Barry specializes in helping young and mature adults navigate challenges related to eating disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders, and mood disorders. He takes pride in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and understands the need to create a space for those navigating the very complex process of connecting to our own identities. Barry is excited to use his passion for mental health to help Rock serve more families and individuals in the community.

Catherine Ide

Board Member

Catherine Ide is a Managing Director in the PwC National Quality Office, focused on building trust in the quality of corporate reporting through shaping and advocating strategic and technological change in the reporting ecosystem. She has over 25 years of experience in advancing stakeholder confidence in corporate reporting, focusing on sustainability reporting for the last 8. Catherine is excited to use her both her corporate skills and her community connections to be an advocate for those who are impacted by eating disorders.

Christina Schultz

Board Member

Christina Schultz works to foster community development, strengthen governance, and defend human rights in conflict and post-conflict countries. For the past 25 years, she has supported multiple agencies, contractors, and non-profits, including the United Nations, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and Chemonics, among others. She has worked and lived in Angola, Colombia, Guatemala, and El Salvador, and managed projects in Afghanistan, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Originally from Los Angeles, Christina now lives in Arlington and enjoys hiking, brewing beer, and exploring the world.

Ginger Parker

Board Member

Ginger currently works at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs where she focuses on enterprise strategy and implementation of complex, cross agency initiatives. Prior to her VA role Ginger spent 18 years at PwC as a Partner in the Public Sector Healthcare practice. Her experience includes urban planning and healthcare work for the City of Boston and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Ginger has a MBA from Duke University, a masters in City Planning from M.I.T. and a B.A. from Brown University. She lives with her husband in Jamaica Plain, MA and enjoys outdoor adventure travel, cooking, and painting.

Phil Shaheen

Board Member

Phil currently works at Databricks in the Public/Federal Sector, supporting numerous mission sets across a wide range of government agencies.  Phil received his Bachelors from Penn State University and his Masters' from Johns Hopkins University, all in Mathematics, Engineering, and Business.  He has been a volunteer at Rock Recovery since 2021 and is currently part of the mentorship program.  Phil is an active member of both the running and rock climbing communities.

Nooshin Kiankhooy

Board Member

Nooshin joined the Rock Recovery board in December of 2023 and has been a clinician in the field of eating disorders since 2010. Nooshin founded Empowering You in 2012, a therapy practice in Olney, MD which specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and trauma. In addition to being a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Supervisor, she also completed basic EMDR training and is hoping to be certified by the end of 2025. She takes passion in guiding new clinicians in the field of eating disorders and mentoring others. As a member of the board, Nooshin is excited to help support Rock Recovery in expanding their clinical programs and outreach to other areas in the DMV. Nooshin lives in Olney, MD with her husband and two daughters. In her free time she loves reading, exploring new restaurants and recording episodes for the podcast she shares with one of her associates, Real Talk Therapy.

Rock Recovery Expert Advisory Council

Dena Cabrera, PsyD CEDS

 Dr. Cabrera is a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified eating disorder specialist at Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders, where she serves as the executive clinical director. She has personally treated hundreds of individuals struggling with eating and body image issues. Dr. Cabrera is a well-known expert, speaker and author in the field; she has spoken at more than twenty national conferences and presented at more than a hundred workshops on eating disorders and other mental health problems. At Rosewood, she manages the day- to- day programs for all levels of care, and is involved in program development, staff training, and supervision throughout the Rosewood system. Dr. Cabrera is the author of The Mom in the Mirror: Body Image, Beauty and Life After Pregnancy. She is very honored and excited about joining Rock Recovery’s Clinical Advisory Council. Dr. Cabrera is proud and supportive of Rock Recovery’s mission and the lives this organization has touched.

Leah Graves, RD, LD, CEDRD, FAED

 Leah Graves has been treating patients with eating disorders for over 30 years. She is highly respected within the eating disorders field for her expertise in medical nutrition therapy, nutrition counseling, clinical supervision, and research. A founding member of the Academy for Eating Disorders, Graves has served on the Academy’s Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and the Fellowship Selection Committee. She is credentialed as a Certified Eating Disorders Registered Dietitian by the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and has also been honored as a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders.

She has written several publications pertaining to nutrition and eating disorders and has been invited to present at the International Conference on Eating Disorders, International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals Symposium, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics — in addition to numerous regional and local conferences. She has also been active with the National Eating Disorders Association as a member of the 2013 and 2014 Conference Planning Committees. Graves received her Bachelor of Science in Clinical Dietetics with highest distinction from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1985. Leah was also the Manager of Eating Disorders Nutrition Therapy for the Laureate Eating Disorders Program in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Lisa Lilenfeld, PhD, FAED

 Dr. Lisa Lilenfeld is a full Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Washington DC and has had a private practice specializing in the treatment of eating disorders since 1996. Dr. Lilenfeld received her B.S. from Cornell University in 1990, her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1995, and completed her internship and three-year National Institute of Mental Health post-doctoral fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinic in Pittsburgh. For the past three decades, her program of research has focused upon identifying risk factors for eating disorders. She has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has made approximately 100 national and international conference presentations, many with graduate students. Dr. Lilenfeld has been interviewed by various television (e.g., ABC news, FOX news) and newspaper (e.g., USA Today, WebMD) organizations regarding her eating disorders work. She is the past president of the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy & Action, as well as an elected member of the Eating Disorders Research Society and an elected Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders. Dr. Lilenfeld is passionate about training other clinicians in the evidence-based treatment of eating disorders.

Kortney Brown, RD, RN, MS, FNP-C

 Kortney is both a nurse practitioner and a registered dietitian and joined Rock Recovery as a Board Member at Large in December 2014. With experience in several different eating disorder treatment settings, she offers expertise in the medical and nutritional aspects of recovery. She studied Nutrition and Dietetics at Samford University and completed her dietetic internship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Additionally, she holds a BS in Nursing from Emory University and a MS in Nursing from UCSF. Kortney is passionate about using her unique skill set to support those on the journey to health and recovery from eating disorders. An Atlanta native, she now calls California home and can often be found training for her next triathlon or traveling.

Chris Willson, LPC

Chris Wilson has worked in the eating disorder field as a director and administrator for over 10 years. With experience at all levels of care, he is passionate about clients having access to the care that they need and deserve. Chris is currently the founder of the DeNovo Center in Eugene, OR.
