Join Newport Academy and Rock Recovery for a complimentary CE event on the warning signs of disordered eating in school-aged children and how to help youth discover the power of body acceptance in the classroom!
Kids today are plagued with messages about what their relationship with food and exercise should look like, and how that will affect their body. Schools are launching “healthy initiative” campaigns, encouraging “clean eating,” and weighing children in class to promote healthy living. With millions of people across the nation struggling with eating disorders, the reality is that these campaigns often reinforce body shame and disrupt students’ relationship with food and their body.
In this continuing education presentation, Kara Becker, LMFT, and Heather Clark, LCPC, will break down the current trends of disordered eating among children and adolescents, while offering insight into the warning signs of disordered eating in elementary through high school students.
Educators and school professionals will walk away with solutions and best practices to implement a curriculum that supports mindful eating and movement, driven by Health at Every Size (HAES)—aligned principles. Additionally, our speakers will offer resources to help educators support families whose children struggle with disordered eating. A Q&A discussion will follow the presentation.
