“I found the community very important. Breaking Bread was really the first time I felt less alone in my experience, and I was able to speak out loud things that I have kept to myself for a long time.”
- Jamie, Breaking Bread Program Graduate
Mealtimes can be a challenge in eating disorder recovery, especially during the workday. Our Breaking Bread lunchtime therapy group offers a weekly supported meal, and therapeutic discussion about healing our relationship with food and our bodies, all led by a licensed therapist. (open to adults 18+, all genders).
Breaking Bread is uniquely designed to give you extra support if you need more than just individual therapy alone, or to ease the transition if you’re stepping down from a higher level of care.
In this group, you will work toward increasing flexibility and permission with food, so that you can freely break bread with those you love and live more fully. You'll also process the issues behind the disordered eating and how they affect your relationship with food and your body. This group covers topics like social and cultural norms and pressures, shame and self-compassion, mindfulness, diet culture, boundaries, relapse prevention, joyful movement, intuitive eating, and more.
Breaking Bread Lunchtime Group Details:
Breaking Bread Lunchtime is a virtual therapy group that meets weekly on Fridays from 12 - 1:30 PM ET on Zoom. The group is open to adults (18 years and older) across VA, DC, MD, and FL. Click here for more information on fees for therapy services and the insurances we accept.
What’s Expected of Breaking Bread Clients:
We ask that clients commit to the group for a minimum of 8 weeks. This helps promote stability in the group, which creates a safe space for everyone to be vulnerable with one another. Clients are encouraged to utilize the group until they feel solid enough in their eating disorder recovery to increase their independence and reduce the amount of support they receive.
