Carylynn Kemp Larson, Ph.D. – Past President & Founder
Carylynn Kemp Larson is a graduate of Centre College (Danville, KY) and earned a Doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychologist from George Mason University. She has an extensive background in designing and implementing individual and organizational development programs. As she volunteers her time with Rock Recovery, she works as an internal consultant for the National Science Foundation and serves as adjunct faculty at George Washington University. Cary is an active member of the International Leadership Association, the Society for Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Association. Cary and her husband Ben live in Arlington, VA, where they are active members of Grace Community Church. Cary and Ben love exploring DC with their son Charlie.
Preet Kaur – President
Preet joined Rock Recovery as Board President in July 2015. She is a mental health clinician who has worked in a diverse range of clinical settings providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults, with specializations in issues of trauma, grief, and loss. She currently holds a research position at the Counseling Department in the George Washington University, in addition to pursuing a doctorate within the department. She strives to maintain a balance between providing clinical services, engaging in mental health applied research, and community outreach activities. To this end, she has previously served as a board member at CHAI, an organization working to serve the mental health needs of the South Asian community. In her spare time, Preet enjoys traveling, running, biking, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and their two dogs.
Jackie Quinlan – Secretary/Historian
Jackie Quinlan joined the Rock Recovery team in the fall of 2012 as a Development Coordinator. Jackie is a DC-area native and received her undergraduate business degree from Cornell University. With experience in the hospitality industry, sales, human resources, and data analysis, Jackie is thrilled to have the opportunity to help support Rock Recovery’s mission. An active member of the Arlington fitness community, Jackie is passionate about balanced healthy eating and wellness. Outside of volunteering with Rock Recovery, Jackie works full-time as a Product Analyst for a research and advisory firm. In her spare time she enjoys distance running, cooking, watching professional sports and reality TV.
Sara Grohl, MBA – Treasurer
Sara Grohl serves as a board member and Treasurer of Rock Recovery. While an Ohioan at heart, she currently lives in Arlington and has also called Chicago and NYC home. She is dedicated to helping others achieve freedom from their eating disorders and lead happier lives. Professionally, Sara focuses on capital market research and has demonstrated success at a bond rating agency, a large investment management firm and a regulatory organization. Sara earned an MBA from Case Western Reserve University with a concentration in finance. As a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) she finds tremendous joy in assisting her students discover their hidden capabilities. She also enjoys tennis, skiing and sailing.
Shelby Colby – Board Member
Shelby Colby became involved with Rock Recovery in 2015 through her church and her desire to see more individuals experience life-giving freedom from disordered eating. Currently, she works in strategy & corporate development for a global education non-profit, and has consulted for Fortune 500 companies, universities, and private equity firms. She graduated from the University of Virginia, where she was a lawn resident, Jefferson Scholar, and earned degrees in economics and religious studies. Shelby and her husband, Douglas, reside in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and they love to travel, go biking, and play Settlers of Catan.
Kortney Parman, RD RN MS FNP-C – Board Member
Kortney is both a nurse practitioner and a registered dietitian and joined Rock Recovery as a Board Member at Large in December 2014. With experience in several different eating disorder treatment settings, she offers expertise in the medical and nutritional aspects of recovery. She studied Nutrition and Dietetics at Samford University and completed her dietetic internship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Additionally, she holds a BS in Nursing from Emory University and a MS in Nursing from UCSF. Kortney is passionate about using her unique skill set to support those on the journey to health and recovery from eating disorders. An Atlanta native, she now calls California home and can often be found training for her next triathlon or traveling.
