Carylynn Kemp Larson, Ph.D. – Past President & Founder
Carylynn Kemp Larson is a graduate of Centre College (Danville, KY) and earned a Doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychologist from George Mason University. She has an extensive background in designing and implementing individual and organizational development programs. As she volunteers her time with Rock Recovery, she works as an internal consultant for the National Science Foundation and serves as adjunct faculty at George Washington University. Cary is an active member of the International Leadership Association, the Society for Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Association. Cary & her husband Ben live in Arlington, VA, where they are active members of National Community Church. Cary & Ben love to explore the beautiful DC memorials by bike or by foot with their precious Beagle, Maple.
Preet Kaur – President
Preet joined Rock Recovery as Board President in July 2015. She is a mental health clinician who has worked in a diverse range of clinical settings providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults, with specializations in issues of trauma, grief, and loss. She currently holds a research position at the Counseling Department in the George Washington University, in addition to pursuing a doctorate within the department. She strives to maintain a balance between providing clinical services, engaging in mental health applied research, and community outreach activities. To this end, she has previously served as a board member at CHAI, an organization working to serve the mental health needs of the South Asian community. In her spare time, Preet enjoys traveling, running, biking, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family and their two dogs.
Jackie Quinlan – Secretary/Historian
Jackie Quinlan joined the Rock Recovery team in the fall of 2012 as a Development Coordinator. Jackie is a DC-area native and received her undergraduate business degree from Cornell University. With experience in the hospitality industry, sales, human resources, and data analysis, Jackie is thrilled to have the opportunity to help support Rock Recovery’s mission. An active member of the Arlington fitness community, Jackie is passionate about balanced healthy eating and wellness. Outside of volunteering with Rock Recovery, Jackie works full-time as a Product Analyst for a research and advisory firm. In her spare time she enjoys distance running, cooking, watching professional sports and reality TV.
Walter Sczudlo – Senior Advisor to the Board
Walter Sczudlo, J.D., LL.M. joined the RR team in 2010 with an expertise in nonprofit legal issues including matters related to nonprofit boards, governance, strategic planning and organization management; as well as staff organization, recruitment, management, and retention. He is pleased to bring to RR his knowledge about best practices in philanthropy based on his background in nonprofit law and policy. Walter is also very active as a public policy advocate on nonprofit issues, having organized passage of the CARE (Charity Aid Recovery and Empowerment) Act and other legislative initiatives including the IRA Charitable Rollover. Prior to establishing his consulting practice, Mr. Sczudlo served as the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), for nearly ten years. Walter is an active runner with two triathlons and a marathon behind him.
Naomi Pizarro – Senior Advisor to the Board
Naomi Pizarro, PHR, comes to Rock Recovery with more than 20 years of experience, to lead and coordinate the Human Resources function as the VP of Human Resources.
Naomi’s professional experience spans organizations in the Washington metropolitan area with 50 to 300+ employees, and some of these firms, with field staff worldwide, including in high conflict areas such as Iraq, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Lebanon, in addition to countries in Africa and the Middle East. In her past positions, Naomi has ensured that staff recruitment, hiring and development, employee relations and the overall human resources strategic direction complements and responds to the strategic long and short-term goals of the organizations. Naomi has a certificate in Human Resources Management from the George Mason University and is also a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and by the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). She earned her degree in General Studies with emphasis in English and Mathematics from Northern Virginia College. She enjoys traveling, sailing and spending time in her native Northern Virginia with her family.
Terribeth serves as a Board Member for Rock Recovery. She graduated from Centre College with a BS in Psychology and earned a Specialist Degree from the University of Eastern Kentucky in School Psychology. Terribeth will work on the outreach for Rock of Recovery focusing on the Hungry for What? programs. She works for Scholastic, Inc. and lives with her husband, 10 year old son and 3 cats in Northern Kentucky.
Kortney Parman, RD RN MS FNP-C – Board Member
Kortney is both a nurse practitioner and a registered dietitian and joined Rock Recovery as a Board Member at Large in December 2014. With experience in several different eating disorder treatment settings, she offers expertise in the medical and nutritional aspects of recovery. She studied Nutrition and Dietetics at Samford University and completed her dietetic internship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Additionally, she holds a BS in Nursing from Emory University and a MS in Nursing from UCSF. Kortney is passionate about using her unique skill set to support those on the journey to health and recovery from eating disorders. An Atlanta native, she now calls California home and can often be found training for her next triathlon or traveling.
Maria Thomas-Wenzel MSHA – Board Member
During the span of her career, Maria has been in the healthcare industry advocating for underserved populations, ensuring they have a voice and securing the health services they need. After obtaining a degree in Psychology from American University, Maria worked as an administrator serving the developmentally disabled and the mentally ill in residences across Montgomery, Howard, and Baltimore Counties in Maryland. While earning her Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland, Maria worked for a contract research organization launching and managing several patient assistance programs designed to provide insurance support and co-pay assistance to patients prescribed specialty medications. Most recently, Maria served as the Vice President for a non-profit organization where she launched a resource center within which several new programs were established to support access to care needs for an orphan disease group. Maria is currently pursuing her certification in project management (PMP).
Maria is delighted to join Rock Recovery to support its mission and the very important work involved in helping people achieve freedom from disordered eating.
Jordan Watson, MA – Board Member
Jordan Watson is a nationwide advocate in the fields of eating disorder and addiction treatment. He believes that recovery is possible for every person and his passion is to help people gain access to the care they deserve. Watson serves as Director of Business Development at La Ventana Treatment Programs, a Southern California treatment center that specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and substance abuse. In addition, Jordan serves as the marketing chair on the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) Los Angeles Chapter Board. In this position, Watson works to develop and promote eating disorder treatment workshops as well as premier professional trainings for practitioners throughout Southern California. Jordan is also an active member of the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED) and the Men’s Association of Addiction Treatment (MAAT). Jordan is proud to join the Rock Recovery Board of Directors and work from his passion to connect people suffering from eating disorders to the best treatment services available.
