Event Volunteer – Grub for Good Fun Run

Join Rock Recovery’s Community Empowerment Team and help promote, organize and execute our Grub for Good quarterly Fun Runs and Runner’s Socials held in Arlington, VA and Washington, D.C. Grub for Good is the ultimate way for runners to support those struggling with food and body image! We meet at Potomac River Running Company for a 5K Run/Walk and follow up with a Runner’s Social at local restaurants with free appetizers, drink specials and prizes. All funds raised go toward Rock Recovery’s mission.

Volunteer Roles:

  • Greet runners and assist with check-in and registration
  • Lead the fun runs (5k distance) and help pace the group
  • Set-up the path and help with day of run logistics
  • Coordinate restaurant logistics and set-up food and materials at post run venue
  • Promote the run to the community using grassroots marketing techniques

Qualifications:

  • Have a passion for Rock Recovery’s cause
  • Age 18 or older
  • Willing to attend at least two of the three scheduled events

  • Arlington, VA (Ballston): 6/5/2013 (6:30 p.m.) and 11/23/2013 (11:00 a.m.)

Website Administrator / Webmaster

Looking for an opportunity to build your resume and expand your web administration and design skills? Rock Recovery is seeking a volunteer to assist with the maintenance and continuing development of our website, www.rockrecoveryed.org.

This position requires approximately 10 hours per month, and involves the following activities:

  • Updating (adding, removing, editing) content
  • Managing online event registration application (see www.rockrecoveryed.org/rr-events)
  • Designing new pages (using existing design options and/or recommending new page templates

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Familiarity with building websites using WordPress

Mentor

Description: Are you in recovery from an eating disorder? Do you feel strong enough in your recovery to help someone who is committed to breaking free? Rock Recovery pairs each of our clients with a mentor who serves as a cheerleader and sounding board to them in their recovery journey. Mentors are provided training and work out details of a mentorship with the client they agree to mentor.Time commitment: up to 4 hours/week; average of 2 hours/week

Therapist

Do you have a desire to use your talents to serve your community? Do you have a passion for helping others recover from disorder eating? Rock Recovery is seeking professional therapists to lead weekly therapy groups for men and women striving to overcome eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive eating, and food/exercise addiction.

Volunteer Responsibilities: Approximately once a month, this volunteer would be responsible for co-leading a small a therapy group (about 10 individuals). This meeting will consist of a meal prepared by a nutritionist and a therapy session. These sessions are held on Sunday evenings between 5 and 8PM in the Arlington Courthouse metro area.

The time commitment (15 hours/month) includes group facilitation, completing, reviewing, and updating client notes, making suggestions for improvement, monthly treatment team meetings, and staying abreast of general communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • LCSW, LPC, Art Therapist, or clinical psychologist certification
  • Graduate degree
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • At least one year working with individuals suffering from disordered eating
  • Ability to support Rock Recovery’s faith-based perspective

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+years working with clients
  • Experience in or working within the eating disorder community
  • Excellent referrals and high performance reviews in past positions

Nutritionist / Dietitian

Do you have a desire to serve your community? Do you have a passion for helping others recover from disordered eating? Rock Recovery is seeking a certified Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian to prepare a weekly group meal for a small group of men and women (about 10 individuals) striving to overcome eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive eating, and food/exercise addiction.

Approximately once a month, this volunteer will be responsible for creating a nutritious, well-balanced, and easy-to-prepare meal. They will need to purchase the necessary ingredients (using funds provided by the organization), lead the cooking demonstration, and eat the meal with the clients. The session will be co-lead by a therapist who will facilitate a therapy group immediately following the meal.

The therapy group is held on Sunday nights between 5 and 6:30pm in the Arlington Courthouse metro area.

Between groups, this volunteer will be responsible for reviewing client notes, attending occasional treatment team meetings, making recommendations for improvement, and staying abreast of general communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nutrition certification or R.D.
  • 2 years experience working with clients
  • Ability to cook prepare simple meals for up to 10 individuals (all supplies provided)
  • Clear understanding of the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of disordered eating
  • Excellent referrals
  • Ability to support Rock Recovery’s faith-based (Christian) approach
  • Solid mental health

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years working with clients

CFC Charity Fair Coordinator

Are you organized? Do you want to use your skills to help individuals recover from disordered eating? Rock Recovery is looking for an individual to serve as the CFC Charity Fair Coordinator. This is a part-time, volunteer position that we need to start no later than August 2012 (earlier preferred) and to work through December 2012.Job Responsibilities:
This volunteer will be responsible for the coordination of the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign efforts. This campaign allows Rock Recovery and other nonprofits to request support from government employees. The volunteer will apply for acceptance into as many fairs as possible, gather necessary materials for the Campaign, schedule volunteers for each event, and train these volunteers to effectively request support.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Organizational skills
  • 1 year of fundraising experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of fundraising experience
  • Excellent references from previous positions

Human Resources Specialist

Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your skills in HR Management? Rock Recovery is a faith-based 501c(3) organization with a mission to support the journey to freedom from disordered eating. We’d love for you to join our volunteer team.

Position Responsibilities

  • Crafting position announcements
  • Posting positions on multiple job search site and through University career offices and alumni associations
  • Monitoring application submission and reviewing applications for minimum qualifications
  • Working with Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure qualified applicants are interviewed, reference checks conducted, and background checks completed
  • Working with our HR Director to ensure that HR policies are followed
  • Upgrading processes, forms, etc., as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • 2+ years experience working in human resources
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
  • 4+ years experience in human resources
  • Experienced in the development or revision of HR policies

VP of Programs

Rock Recovery’s VP of Programs is responsible for overseeing the effectiveness of the organization’s Individual Recovery and Community Empowerment Programs.
Organizational Information

Job Responsibilities

  • Adhere to expectations for all Board Members (e.g., provide strategic governance, represent the organization to stakeholder groups, review and adhere to policies required to comply with statutory and regulatory mandates, attend monthly and annual board meetings, make or generate a $500 annual contribution to the organization)
  • Adhere to expectations for all members of the Treatment Team (e.g., maintaining confidentiality of all clients and potential clients; remaining informed regarding Treatment Team initiatives; attending monthly treatment team meetings; responding to inquiries from team leadership)
  • Work with Rock Recovery leadership to set goals for Rock Recovery’s Individual Recovery and Community Empowerment Programs
  • Develop a plan for the evaluation of Rock Recovery Programs
  • Oversee the implementation of evaluation programs, including providing guidance and direction to staff and volunteers whose activities coincide with program evaluation and supervising any volunteers whose primary responsibility is for program evaluation activities (e.g., research assistants)
  • Develop and implement a process for summarizing program evaluation data on a monthly basis, and providing updated monthly reports in advance of board meetings
  • Work with Program Directors to determine the context of program evaluation results, to determine success factors, and to develop and implement programmatic changes in response to program evaluation data
  • Work with Board of Directors to raise funds sufficient to cover program expenses
  • Work with Program Directors and organizational leadership to determine program budgets and with staff to ensure that expenses are within or below budget; approve of expense requests falling into existing budgets, and consult with Board of Directors regarding exceptions to existing budgets.
  • Assist with the recruitment of top talent to the treatment team by posting position vacancies to professional listserves and serving as a spokesman for the organization.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Program Evaluation — Identifying measures or indicators of program performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of various program.

Required Education and Experience

  • Education: Ph.D., D.O., or M.D.
  • Experience: 5 or more years treating individuals with eating disorders
  • Licenses/Certifications: Licensed/qualified to practice in VA

Work Environment: This position involves a combination of working on a computer and communicating via phone, Skype, email, or other modalities. A computer and secure internet connection are required. Office space is not provided, thus the position requires the VP of Programs work from home or another private setting.

Physical Demands: This position involves the ability to talk on a phone for up to 2 hours at a time, and to type on a computer for up to an hour.


Therapy Group Assistant

Rock Recovery is seeking professional therapists to lead weekly therapy groups for men and women striving to overcome eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive eating, and food/exercise addiction.

Job Responsibilities:

Approximately once a month, this volunteer would be responsible for assisting an art therapist in leading a small therapy group (about 10 individuals). This meeting consists of a meal prepared by a nutritionist and an art therapy session. These sessions are held on Sunday evenings between 5 and 8PM in Arlington, near the Courthouse metro.

Between meetings, the volunteer will be responsible for reviewing and updating client notes, contacting potential attendees, making suggestions for improvement, attending occasional treatment team meetings, and staying abreast of general communication.


Vice President of Marketing

Rock Recovery is a 501c(3) non profit organization that supports the journey to freedom from disordered eating through individual recovery and community empowerment programs. Established in 2009, the organization is operated almost exclusively by volunteers. Alongside other Board Members, the Vice President of Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing Rock Recovery’s marketing and communication strategies.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Fulfill responsibilities associated with Board service, including:

  • Attend monthly board meetings and annual two-day weekend retreat (local)
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for Rock Recovery programs and events, including digital marketing channels (e.g., Active.com, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Forge and maintain partnerships for the purpose of cross-promotion
  • Keep constituents informed of events, milestones and other news though creation of of a monthly e-newsletter and email blasts
  • Ensure press releases are distributed for events and to recognize staff accomplishments
  • Oversee maintenance and continual enhancement of Rock Recovery website
  • Contribute to creation of production of Rock Recovery promotional materials (e.g., brochure, fact sheet)
  • Manage Marketing & Communications volunteers (e.g., writers, editors, webmasters, graphic designer), delegating tasks as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in marketing
  • Management experience and the proven ability to lead a team in a collaborative and results oriented manner
  • Detail oriented and self-directed
  • An eye for design and strong copywriting skills
  • Experience managing design and production of print pieces preferred
  • Budget management experience preferred
